چکیده
Abstract We calculate the nuclear induced breakup of Be and B using a more realistic treatment of the diffraction and stripping processes than in previous work. The breakup is treated in the eikonal approximation with a profile function calculated from a realistic optical potential at low energies and from free nucleon-nucleon cross sections at high energies. This treatment gives a good description of measured breakup cross sections, as well as the longitudinal momentum distribution of the core-like fragments, which is narrower than predicted in the transparent limit. The real part of the potential is found to be significant and enhances the diffractive breakup at low energies. 25.60.Gc,25.70.Mn

Probing Isospin Dynamics in Halo Nuclei
Nuclear many-body theory is used to study nuclear matter and finite nuclei at extreme isospin. In-medium interactions in asymmetric nuclear matter are obtained from (Dirac-) Brueckner theory. Neutron skin formation in Ni and Sn isotopes is investigated by relativistic mean-field calculations in DDRH theory with density dependent meson-nucleon vertices. Applications to light nuclei are discussed...
متن کاملCoulomb breakup mechanism of neutron-halo nuclei in a time-dependent method.
The mechanism of the Coulomb breakup reactions of the nuclei with neutronhalo structure is investigated in detail. A time-dependent Schrödinger equation for the halo neutron is numerically solved by treating the Coulomb field of a target as an external field. The momentum distribution and the postacceleration effect of the final fragments are discussed in a fully quantum mechanical way to clari...
متن کاملElastic scattering and reaction mechanisms of the halo nucleus 11Be around the Coulomb barrier.
Collisions induced by (9,10,11)Be on a 64Zn target at the same c.m. energy were studied. For the first time, strong effects of the 11Be halo structure on elastic-scattering and reaction mechanisms at energies near the Coulomb barrier are evidenced experimentally. The elastic-scattering cross section of the 11Be halo nucleus shows unusual behavior in the Coulomb-nuclear interference peak angular...
متن کاملSignificant features of 8 B scattering from 208 Pb at 170 . 3 MeV
The scattering of proton-halo nucleus 8B from 208Pb at 170.3 MeV is shown to reveal a distinctive pattern in the change in |SL| that is induced by coupling to breakup channels. The same pattern had been found for 8B scattering from 58Ni at 30 MeV, an energy near the Coulomb barrier, and has been linked to various other respects in which scattering for this proton-halo nucleus differs from that ...
متن کاملUnderstanding the interplay between sub–barrier breakup of Li and above-barrier suppression of complete fusion
With the discovery of halo nuclei, and recent intensive development of radioactive ion beams (RIBs) around the world, there is renewed interest in studying interaction of weakly-bound light nuclei as a basis for understanding interactions of halo nuclei and RIBs. Using a novel experimental approach [1], reactions of the weakly–bound nuclei Be and Li with heavy targets consistently showed suppre...
